Katharine Ashe is probably one of the most consistent builders of "gorgeous hero" characters in this genre. Okay, so I loved Doree in In the Arms of a Marquess (Rogues of the Sea), adored Leam in When a Scot Loves a Lady: A Falcon Club Novel (The Falcon Club), swooned over Saint in The Rogue: A Devil's Duke Novel marveled over Colin Gray in The Earl: A Devil's Duke Novel and Wyn in How a Lady Weds a Rogue: A Falcon Club Novel is nothing to sneeze at.

I could go on and on, but I think you will get my point if you've read any of the above books. In this book, Alex, the Earl of Savege, or Captain Redstone, pirate - take your pick for he's the same person - does not have a perfect character. In fact, he has a shady past in that he was very irresponsible in his youth, resulting in some tragic occurrences within his family. He's struggled long and hard with his imperfections and continues to have ghosts residing in his soul.

However, when the lovely Serena Carlyle steps into a dark room at a ball and Alex kisses her, their lives will never be the same. Serena has what Alex has lacked in that she has willingly put the interests of those she loves above her own. Now she's on a mission to put an end to the smuggling activities in the area where she lives. If the mighty Earl of Savege won't help her, then she'll apply to the Pirate Redstone. Although Alex is very attracted to Serena and can't seem to stay away from her (even though he's semi-betrothed to her younger, "more beautiful" sister) he refuses to aid her in her quest to get to the bottom of the smuggling activities. Little does Alex know, he's the one who needs rescuing and Serena is just the person with the fortitude to help Alex rise to the top.

Lots going on within this storyline; two lovely young women, a wicked stepmother, an out and out rake (who is trying to reform), a betrothal gone awry, two brothers who are both wounded in their own way. As is often the case with Ashe's books, I could have used a few more details about the past history, but all in all, it was a very enjoyable read. I'm on an Ashe re-read kick.

Have read them all and always look for her new releases! Action, adventure, and sexy romance! A great story that leads you to read the others with the introduction of interesting characters.
Wonderful, exciting, dramatic, & romantic book! It was so good I hated to put it down & I hated to finish it! Many thanks to Katharine as he for such superb writing skills & in my favorite historical romance )))

Chemistry and the action in the story. I thought the story flowed well and the characters were well developed. It definitely kept me interested and the fact that I severely disliked a few of the characters , showed how well written they were.

I did not like how hard these poor women had to fight for their men. At times, I really wanted to ask if they had any pride. This is actually my not so good for the whole series. Strong women turn weak fir men. Not my favorite scenario.

The not so good did not stop me from reading the next few in the series. That is why I gave it 3 starts. Enjoy!
I love the secrecy, gives it some mystery. I enjoyed the outcome but there were some loose ends I would have liked to see tied up, which is why I have given four stars.
Is there something wrong with me if I read the book twice within one week? Yes, that's what I did. You will be enchanted by these two lead characters, Alex and Serena and I especially like that Serena is a head-strong woman with a mind of her own.
I enjoyed this book very much. The like to hate the scheming mother who manipulates her daughter into a position so that a betrothal occurs. I also like the polite but determined Lord who knows who he want to be his bride. The heroine was also a very sympathtic and likeable character. The intricacies of the plot made it a page turner. I knew everything would turn out o.k. but I wanted to make sure and find out how.
I absolutely love this book!! The main Character, too bad they’re aren’t many around like him! Lol I loved it that he was a pirate and a rake, but really sensuous. Great book! Will definitely be reading this again!!
