Like the first book in this series, this one deals with some very difficult content. It still has the same editing issues as the first, although this one is slightly better. That being said the author has still not learned how to add and subtract and so this does not have a logical timeline. For example, the last chapter is during the birth of Lou’s child and the epilogue takes place fifteen months late when the child is now two. What. Not sure how that works but not an uncommon error for this author. I also had a difficult time believing that any of this story took place in America. She should have done a little more research on American English before writing or stick to what you know. Things like living in Massachusetts and going to school in Pittsburg and coming home every weekend. Not going to happen, because the distance is much too far. It was also difficult to believe that Johan would get over all of his issues so easily for Lou. I liked this story, overall, but again it was not all that believable.Tags : Surviving Love: Surviving Series (Volume 2) [Mrs Ada Frost] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. 4.5 Stars
**As soon as I finished this was an immediate 5 star read just bc of my feelings but then I thought about one scene and I really wished it was told- hence the downgrade.
Holy Hot Cakes!!! What a story!
I was having heart palpitations with Elemental Fear, geez Louise ) that was nothing. This book had so much going for itself. Yes the editing was much better. Not perfect, but nothing close to what EF was. But the storyline! The way the abuse was told when Johan was a small boy and how he aged. The hell he went through. How those who saved him came to his rescue in the most amazing way. It was more than emotional. It had the perfect balance of heaven and hell and I can't believe how much I loved this story.
The way Johan and Louise were so easy and fun together, their growth was phenomenal to watch. I am so shocked how much I enjoyed it. I keep saying that out loud as well. It may be just me, but that's okay! Johan was THE character for me. I loved Louise and how strong she was for herself and Johan but his history and how he overcame it really was the shining star here.
WOW
WOW
WOW
I've wanted to read this book since the moment I met Johan in Elemental Fear. He was just so fun, and flirty, and cool and laid back. He danced with little girls without any inhibitions, was perceptive enough to know when his friend was hiding an awful secret, and he was 'there' when he was needed most. Yet we knew he had a past, and it probably hadn't been kind to him. He melted my book-boyfriend-loving heart.
Before Ada Frost even started writing Surviving Love, I was all like, "This man is MINE. All you other ladies can just back off. FIRST DIBS." I was even skeptical of Louise when I learned she was going to be his leading lady, even though they had some nice sizzling chemistry together in book one. I just wasn't ready to share him yet!
Then Surviving Love got here, and I was allowed to read it (early, ha ha!!), and wow! Knock my freaking socks off. Johan's poor past was so unbelievably awful, it was just...I wanted to hurt and castrate, and un-alive many bad characters in this book. But it made what Johan became as a grown man even more outstandingly amazing! He overcame so much and still turned out that awesome. And the residual little setbacks here and there that he had made it even more heart-wrenching.
And I haven't even gotten to the main storyline yet.
Lou Wow! I so love this spunky, straight-forward, yet caring woman. She can be sassy one moment and the perfect caretaker the next. She is honestly the best match for my Johan. Only with HER will I share him!
I wanted to kick her "boyfriend" in the nuts way more than once, but even if he turned out to be an okayish guy, I still don't think he would have stood a chance with competition like Johan (I feel like sighing every time I type his name!!).
They had trials and tribulations and more than one stumbling block. But they also had each other to help get past everything. No matter how dark things looked, there was always a light at the end of the tunnel. There was hope for a better future. They healed and they triumphed.
I love the way this story made me laugh. I love how it made me want to curl into a ball and weep. I love how it made my guts twist into knots, worried that the worst had happened. I loved how Johan was so willing to take on Lou's baby. I love how she was there for him when he needed someone the most. I love their first bedroom scene, and what how he fixes up a nursery for her, and when they go out dancing. And I loved me most of all the sweetest happily ever after possible!
This is what romance stories are all about!
I would give this ten stars if I could, the way Jo and Lou help each other love again is a thing of beauty. I love this whole series, this is the third time reading it. I thought I should finally leave a review.
I suffered, cried and laugh with this story. I love books about people surviving traumas and this was no disappointment. It's not only about love between a man and a woman, but among strangers. It's about braveness and determination.
My favorite book in the series. Johan has been my favorite character in the series since he swooped in to rescue Eve in book 1. Once they hinted that his cheery, flirtatious demeanor hid a very tormented past, I was hooked. In this story, it delves into that past and it is every bit as heartbreaking as promised. Johan was viciously abused as a very young child and spent many years recovering. The aftermath of Eve's story blows a hole through his coping mechanisms and he finds himself having to cobble the pieces back together with Louise's help. This was a wonderful story and I look forward to learning more about Johan's family in book 4 of the series.
